Review: I Need a New Butt! by Dawn McMillan, Ross Kinnaird

SUMMARY FROM NETGALLEY.COM:
A young boy suddenly notices a big problem — his butt has a huge crack! So he sets off to find a new one. Will he choose an armor-plated butt? A rocket butt? A robot butt? Find out in this quirky tale of a tail, which features hilarious rhymes and delightful illustrations. Children and parents will love this book — no ifs, ands, or butts about it!
MY TAKE:
I don't usually like books about butts but I thought this one was pretty funny.

In I Need a New Butt!, a little boy thinks he broke his butt so he starts thinking of what kind of replacement butt he should have.

I'm not really a fan of the illustration style, however, particularly the way the boy was drawn. I did like the use of color, though.

I wasn't really sure how the book would be able to pull off being funny without being gross, but it was able to do so. I actually liked the different types of butts he considered, especially the arty-farty butt. I found myself laughing a few times and my infant son seemed to enjoy it too as he laughed a couple of times, although I'm not sure if he was laughing at the drawings or at the verses.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dover Publications for the e-ARC. Publication date of I Need a New Butt! is on September 17, 2014.

THE GOOD:

  1. The verses are funny.
  2. The illustrations makes really nice use of color.
  3. It really does make both parent and child laugh.

THE BAD:

  1. The illustration style isn't for everyone.

FAVORITE QUOTE/S:
Of course! The fart!
That's what blew my butt apart!
Split the thing clean in two.
Now I wonder what to do.
